Jog on

At the gym last night I attempted jogging on the running machine. My usual routine involves walking and increasing speed and incline before moving on to something more interesting, like the rowing machine, where I close my eyes and imagine rowing a sleek classic wooden framed boat down the River Thames at Henley.

I say attempted jogging, as it was more speed walking with a limp, like Forest Gump to the backing track of Dwayne Eddys’s guitar twang. And I was putting a fair amount of weight through my arms on the rails. I lasted about twenty seconds before twinges of pain radiated up and around my ankle. I had visions of falling and bouncing off the track and flung backwards like a discarded reject but no such comedy or errors occurred. Go for thirty seconds next time…
