Just a quick follow up to the previous Steichen post, with his record setting photograph, The Pond-Moonlight, which went for $2.9 million, I came across another high flying photograph by Andreas Gursky, called Rhein II, which is now the world’s most expensive photograph at auction, selling for $4.3 million. Steichen is now number four int he top selling list, with another Gursky image, 99 Cent II Diptychon, at number three and a Cindy Sherman image called, Untitled #96, at number two.
