Thigh bone connected to…

I sit in a consultants room waiting for the great man to appear and share the bare NHS approved walls with three boxes of surgical gloves and a skeleton who looms over, as if mocking me with its perfectly formed bone structure. The doc enters, an orthopaedic fellow of the hospital no less, measures angles of my right elbow with a very low tech piece of plastic, inflicts pain on my left ankle and deems my progress and X-rays as good and then ponders to himself about seeing me in 6 weeks or 3 months, before uttering…

“6 weeks I think. You’re medically interesting.”
